Picking the right paint color can make all the difference in how a kitchen looks and feels. What are the go-to Sherwin-Williams colors that designers keep coming back to for kitchen cabinets?
To find out, I talked to interior design pros and asked them which Sherwin-Williams hues they love and why. Their favorites range from timeless neutrals to bold statement colors. Some of these shades are best sellers for a reason—they show up in projects again and again—while others are more unexpected. Either way, choosing one of these paints is a smart way to kick off your kitchen makeover.
1. Take Five

Sometimes, one detail in a kitchen’s design can point you straight to the perfect cabinet color—and that’s exactly what happened in a light blue kitchen remodel by Black Ink Interiors in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Jenny Slingerland, the owner and principal designer, chose Sherwin-Williams’ Take Five for the cabinets. She explained that it was the ideal blue to pair with the Schumacher wallpaper and helped brighten up what had been a pretty dark space. It’s a cheerful, fresh shade that really transformed the whole feel of the kitchen.
2. Limewash

For this neutral kitchen, Shannon Adamson of Shannon Adamson Interior Design went with Limewash by Sherwin-Williams—and I can see why.
She describes it as the perfect light neutral, striking just the right balance between cream and gray. It’s deeper than your typical builder-grade white, which gives the cabinets a custom, elevated look while still keeping the space light and airy—exactly what her clients were after.
To add contrast and dimension, she used Cornwall Slate on the island. The darker tone adds richness to the palette and really draws attention to the pale green handmade backsplash tile. It’s a great example of how thoughtful color choices can pull a whole design together.
3. Austere Gray

If you're into gray kitchens, Austere Gray is definitely one to check out. Cara Shahbandi of Stanton Home Design used it on the cabinets in a Florida kitchen, and it reacts beautifully to the shifting light throughout the day.
She explained that the front of the house—and the kitchen—faces east, so in the morning, the space fills with warm light. But since the window above the sink faces north, there's also a soft, moody quality that comes through in the color. It’s what she calls a true chameleon shade—it shifts from a brighter sage green to a more muted gray-green as the light changes. It’s subtle but incredibly dynamic.
4. Tricorn Black

Black kitchens have a timeless elegance, and using black on the cabinets gives the entire space a sleek, sophisticated feel that doesn’t go out of style. In this case, designer Lauren Lerner, CEO and founder of Living with Lolo, chose Tricorn Black—and it’s easy to see why.
She describes it as a true, classic black that instantly elevates a space. Whether it’s used on cabinets or as an accent wall, it creates a striking contrast with lighter elements like countertops or backsplashes. It's also incredibly versatile, working seamlessly with everything from modern designs to more transitional styles. And best of all, it's a shade that always looks current, no matter the trends.
5. Greek Villa

If you're going for a white kitchen but want something with a bit more warmth, Greek Villa by Sherwin-Williams is a great option to consider. Jennifer Guerin of JG Color Studios used it in this space, and it strikes just the right balance.
She describes it as a warm, creamy white that makes the kitchen feel inviting and comfortable. The soft yellow undertones keep it from looking too stark or sterile, and it pairs beautifully with cooler elements like the backsplash and existing countertops. It’s a subtle but thoughtful way to warm up a neutral palette.
6. Realist Beige

If you're a fan of decorating with neutrals, this beige kitchen is full of inspiration. Lauren Utsch of Lauren Christopher Designs went with Realist Beige—a choice that really brings the space to life.
She explained that they were aiming for a soft mushroom tone to add depth without overpowering the kitchen. Since the home has an open floor plan with white walls, the beige helped introduce just enough warmth to keep things from feeling too stark. The white oak island was a perfect match, tying everything together with a natural, cohesive feel.
7. Night Owl

Green kitchens come in all sorts of shades—everything from olive to apple—but if you’re looking for something a little moodier, take a look at Night Owl by Sherwin-Williams.
Shannon Adamson used this beautiful gray-green in a recent project, and I love how she describes it. It strikes the perfect balance—not too army green, not too sage—just the right amount of depth. With vaulted ceilings and light-colored walls, the space needed some contrast, and the cabinets brought in that visual weight without feeling overwhelming. Night Owl adds drama in the best, most understated way.
8. Extra White

If your kitchen could use a boost in natural light, Extra White by Sherwin-Williams is a great choice for cabinetry. In one project, Valerie Helgeson of Design Directions paired it with a second color to strike the perfect balance.
Her clients wanted a bold blue, but because the kitchen flows right into the dining and living areas, she didn’t want the color to feel too overpowering or out of place. The solution? Seaworthy for the island—a rich, grounded blue-gray that brings in color without overwhelming the space. Then, she used Extra White on the perimeter cabinets to keep everything feeling open, bright, and pulled together. It’s a smart, balanced way to introduce color while keeping things cohesive.
9. Dorian Gray

When working with gray, I like the idea of layering different tones to add depth and warmth. In this project, Brad Ramsey of Brad Ramsey Interiors shared how they used Benjamin Moore Rodeo on most of the walls—it turned out to be the perfect warm, pale gray for the client’s home.
To complement it, they brought in Sherwin-Williams Dorian Gray for the kitchen cabinets. It’s a slightly deeper gray that adds richness without making the space feel too dark or heavy. Since the kitchen connects to areas with a dark zinc hood and warm wood ceiling details, this touch of warmth on the cabinets helped create balance. The result is a kitchen that feels welcoming and lived-in—the kind of space where everyone naturally gathers while dinner’s being made.
10. Waterloo

If you're looking to bring energy and personality into a blue kitchen, Waterloo by Sherwin-Williams is a standout. Gina Hicks, owner and principal of Vivid Interiors, used it on the cabinets in this space, describing it as a moody, bold, and sophisticated blue with incredible depth.
She chose it not just for its elegance, but for the vibe it brings to the kitchen. It’s the kind of color that turns the space into a creative, lively hub—where you can easily imagine spontaneous dance parties (ABBA included), laughter, and unforgettable moments. It’s more than just a pretty paint color—it sets the tone for joy and connection.
At the end of the day, the right Sherwin-Williams paint color for your kitchen cabinets should reflect what you want the space to feel like. Consider the warmth or coolness of the tone, how it plays with natural light, and how much brightness it reflects. Those details can make all the difference in creating a kitchen that feels just right.
